The
Rockford Early Learning Council was notified on September 30, 2005
by the US Department of Health and Human Services, Administration
for Childcren and Families that it had been awarded a federal Early
Learning Opportunities Act grant totaling $900,000. The City of
Rockford Human Services Department will serve as Administrative
Agent for the project. Because the City of Rockford is fortunate
to have sufficient early learning programs to serve a large percentage
of eligible, at-risk children, the 17 month Rockford Early Learning
Project will focus on strengthening the quality of early learning
programs, and on helping parents support their young children's
learning and development at home. Lead organizations involved in
coordinating various aspects of the project include YWCA Child Care
Solutions, Janet Wattles Mental Health Center, and La Voz Latina.
Project staff will work out of the offices in the Rockford Day Nursery
building, located at 2323 South 6th Street.
