Affordable Child Care Should Not be Out of Reach

In 1997, the State of Illinois merged all employment-related childcare programs under one new program in the Illinois Department of Human Services (IDHS). This new program makes child care assistance available to all working families at or below 50% of the state median income level.

Childcare services are paid for and checks issued by the Illinois Department of Human Services. It is our responsibility to approve payments for childcare as long as the parent remains eligible for one of the programs. Eligibility is determined by having access to IDHS client information via a computer link with Springfield, as well as written documentation of work schedules, education and training schedules, income and childcare provider certification.

Making sure that providers are paid quickly and accurately is a high priority. We recognize the valuable service they are providing to working families and want them to know that they are appreciated for their efforts.
